 A domain name is
a unique address which is easy for your clients
& visitors to remember. Each domain name
points to the location of your files on the host
server.
Many hosting
companies still charge $70.00 per year for name
registrations, however there are lower prices and
we have found a number of domain registration
services that do registrations at a greatly
reduced rate.
Almost all
registration companies require that domain names
be registered for a minimum of two years however
you can register your domain for a maximum of 10
years.
You can transfer
the location of where your domain name is hosted
by putting in a request to the company that you
registered your domain name with and have them
"point" or redirect the the name to a
new hosting company. Any request for a transfer
must be made directly by the individual who
originally registered the name directly to the
registration company (preferably via the same
e-mail account for security).
All domain names
need to be renewed or registered when the initial
registration period expires. If your domain name
is due for renewal you might want to reregister
your name with one of these low cost services.
When your registration period ends you should
receive notification directly from the company
that registered you. However, they will only send
to your last known e-mail address. If you have
changed your e-mail address since you first
registered your name you are at great risk of
possibly losing your domain name.
